Can I Register for Classes...Please?

Registering for classes your freshmen year is usually something you are excited about. Seeing the many class options and the times it is offered is an experience in its self.
And then there is registering for classes at Howard University.
Registering for classes at Howard University is like being at war with a steel wall. You are not going to get anywhere. On April 7, 2011, registration opened up for all of the non Honor freshmen students. Registering for classes before coming to Howard was hell; however I did not expect it to be hell times 2 this time. I hoped for the best, but surely expected the worst. I brought my laptop to class just so I could register and get all the classes I already scheduled to get a week prior to. I logged in at 8:59 exact and got into Bisonweb with no hassle, but then 9:00 A.M. hit. Bisonweb went down and so did my heart. I tried and tried to log in to Bisonweb constantly, I even stopped focusing on my test I was taking just so I can secure my spot in the classes. But it didn’t matter because the Bisonweb server was down and was not coming back anytime soon.
It got to the point that angry Freshmen took to Twitter and Facebook to vent out against Howard and its useless servers. It was so popular, it became a trending topic in the Washington D.C. area.

The only thing Howard told us was that

Really though?
What about the first time we tried to register for classes? What about the years before us? This is obviously an on going problem.

Why is it that BisonWeb shuts down when we all have to register for mandatory classes? Why is it that Freshmen's are placed as the last priority than the other sutdents and even the sports team?
I should not be stressing about registering classes. With all of the money they have, they should put it towards fixing the servers that seem to be over 200 years old.

  1. I totally agree! This is a problem! I had the same issue registering for housing. I was able to pick housing on the 1st day and as I logged in at 8:45 to get the housing of my choice, BisonWeb shut down and the housing I wanted was gone by 9:04. I feel as though Howard should be more organized. I mean they know that by 9:00 many people will be online so they need a better system!

  3. I am happy that I have a major like chemical engineering, my classes are too specific to fill up. Life out of COAS is the good life

  4. Agree, agree, agree. I don't understand why things like registering for housing and classes are made so difficult but I really wish Howard would get it together. I am on scholarship and I didn't have housing until August 13, 2010.
