Claim: Losing top Black students to predominately white schools.
Reason: I have heard many students from back home say they would never attend an HBCU. Not because it was a historically black college, but because of the administration. They constantly talk about how unorganized and how unhelpful the administration of most, if not all HBCUs are. For example, Shannon Bentley, a freshman at Marquette University, compared the administration of Marquette University (a predominately white institution) to that of Howard University’s. She stated, “The reason you’re constantly having problems with the administration is because it’s a black school. White folks always have things done on time and accurately. That’s why I couldn’t go to an HBCU.
Backing: Current Howard University students and those of other HBCUs such as Clark Atlanta University and Spelman College has complained to me and others about how the administration of their school is affecting their continuation of their education at an HBCU.
We should not have to fight or even threaten the administration because their information is not accurate. The administration should not be paid top dollars if such complaints are coming from the majority of the student body. If it IS broken, someone needs to fix it.
